Formed by Dan Winders and lead guitarist Brent Wheeler, Okie Down has been playing off and on for more than 20 years.
"We do music that Okies like to hear. We're geared toward the culture of music and entertainment that people from Tulsa like to hear," That means a somewhat different playlist than your standard house party band. The repertoire features a selection of Southern influenced blues-rock and Red Dirt covers that reflect the tastes of band members and their audience. Think John Lee Hooker and Lynyrd Skynyrd alongside Shooter Jennings and Zac Brown with a little Jason Boland, Johnny Lang and Steve Earle thrown in for good measure. Okie Down will be featured in the VIP Tent on New Years Eve.
Eric Himan, met the Adams (Jimmy Adams on bass and Angel Adams on drums) in Tulsa after performing at an open mic on the same night back in 2007. A club in Tulsa reached out to Eric to perform with one stipulation: he needed a band.
As a solo acoustic artist, Eric has toured the country non-stop for the past five years building a grassroots audience the way many of his influences such as Ani DiFranco did. He released five studio cds adding RESONATE, his sixth cd, to the list this past May. Directly following this, he was nominated by MTV’s LOGO Channel “NewNowNext Awards”. This nomination has been one of many accolades received since the beginning of his career back in 2001 when he began touring the college circuit. He has appeared in the pages of OUT Magazine, The Advocate, Genre, Instinct, and Curve. He also has been featured in the Fender Guitars catalogue of which he has received an endorsement.
Upon moving to Tulsa and getting offered a local gig requiring a back-up band, Eric met the Adams duo and started performing locally. Word caught on with their audiences and started filling up the club they performed at. When Market Days requested Eric’s presence at this year’s festival, he decided to bring the band out of Tulsa for its first gig up north to Chicago. With Eric switching from acoustic to electric guitar, the trio performs not only music from Eric’s latest, RESONATE and past releases but a covers songbook including the likes of Prince, Maroon 5, and many more.
